Our club Board budgeted $4000 toward Optimist-sponsored scholarship awards to Kirkwood High School seniors this year through the KAPS organization in the 2017 budget year. KAPS received applications from 30 seniors and 15 students were interviewed per day. Applicants were rated based upon class GPA ranking, ACT/SAT test scores, participation in KHS activities throughout their KHS career, financial , and special considerations.
Four seniors were selected this year to receive our club-sponsored KAPS scholarship awards and were recognized at our May 18th meeting:

(2) Brenna Roberston
(3) Kara Steele
(4) Julia Wunning-Zimmerman
Our club wishes each of these recipients a successful college career!

Through 2016, the Kirkwood Optimist Club has cumulatively sponsored 13 KAPS college scholarships totaling $15,000 in support of needy Kirkwood High School graduating seniors. The winners of past scholarships are recognized below:

The 2013 winners of our club-sponsored KAPS (Kirkwood Area Perpetual Scholarships) scholarships are (1) Shannon Dulz and (2) Elisa Steele. Dan Geeting and Ray Schulz particpated in the 2-days of interviews of 18 KHS seniors that applied for scholarship assistance for their freshman year and the Wednesday evening selection process of the KAPS committe at Kay Hagan's home in Kirkwood. Once again, Jeff Schukar did an excellent job of managing the KAPS Awards.
Elisa Steele received her award certificate and club-sponsored KAPS contribution at our June 27th meeting at Psghetti's. Her award photo appears below with President Doug Kriegshauser.
Shannon Dulz was unable to attend our June 27th meeting and will hopefully be able to receive her award at the July 18th meeting at the Kirkwood American Legiona Hall.
The 2012 club-sponsored KAPS scholarship winners from Kirkwood High School are: (1) Rachel Clogston and (2) Jasmyne Glenn. Each $1000 scholarship award is judged based upon financial need, academic performance and student activities. These students were recognized at our June 7th meeting. JasmyneGlenn was unable to attend; however, the photos below include Rachel's grandmother, Loretta, and mother, Connie. Loretta is a past Missouri Governor for Optimist International!
Kirkwood Area Perpetual Scholarships (KAPS) is an organization supported by past Kirkwood High School graduates and parents that is funded by alumni donations, contributions from the Kirkwood Optimist Club and other fund-raising activities. This year 16 students applied for KAPS financial aid. Club-member judges this year included Dan Geeting and Ray Schulz.
