Brittany Morgan and Alanna Walls competed in the regional contest and did a great job representing our club! Brittany is on the left in the photo and Alanna is hidden in the back (sorry, Alanna, it was the best of 3 photos I took).
Brittany Morgan is the regional back-up contestant for the District competition. Congratulations Brittany!
Once again, Dave Ryan did a fantastic coordination job for the event. Thanks Dave!
Thursday, March 4th Student Oratorical Contest
Location: Kirkwood Presbyterian Church (corner of Kirkwood & Adams)
Contest Chairman: Kirk Hutchison (cell: 374-5560)
Again, we had some excellent presentations from competition candidates. This year the subject was "Cyberspace, is it good or bad?".
The five candidates in order of their individual presentations included:
1. Joseph Taylor (MC) 2. Najha McIntyre (LL) 3. Claire Sizemore (MC) 4. Brittany Morgan (NV) 5. Alanna Walls (MMS)
Our three (3) Judges included:
1. Thomas Miller - President Toastmasters (Edward D. Jones) 2. Jeramy Dyle - Vice President Toastmasters (Edward D. Jones) 3. Ivy Hutchison - Substitute Lindberg School District College Counselor
The Kirkwood Optimist Club thanks the above judges for their contributions and time. Good job!
Frank Jones was the club's official time-keeper for each presentation and Dave Ryan coordinated lining up the candidates for this event. In preparation for his role as time-keeper, Frank learned how to use the stop watch function on his cell phone! Bob Collis and Ray Schulz served as support staff and event photographers.
Kirk Hutchison did a great job as event chairman and master of ceremonies.
The contest winners, which will represent our club at the regional competition, are Claire Sizemore and Brittany Morgan and the back-up representative for the Regional Competition at Cape Albion on March 27th is Alanna Walls. Cape Albion is located at Doughtery Ferry and Big Bend and hosted the regional competition last year. Best wishes to the Club representatives at the regional competition!
